Ungrateful Boss

I am a Cosmetology Instructor with 17 years experience. I meet my former boss while working at a Cos school. She informed me, after we became friends, that her lifelong dream was to open her own school.

After a few years, she found a building and opened up her own school. She asked if I would help her open the school and move to the town.

I asked about salary and it was more than I had been getting, plus she offered some benefits. So I helped her open the school.

She always said, that without my help, the school would never have opened. I was like a saint sent to help. ( She was very religious).

We opened the school with just the two of us and I worked 8 to 10 hrs a day, just as long as she did.

About 6 mos after opening, she decided to have night school also. So she asked if I could work 9 to 9 and not get paid for the evening shift until she got ahead on money. Ok, I said because I felt like the school was part of me and to do it for the good of the students.

As 3 years went by, the boss, started to slump on the job and was always leaving me in charge. She would go away for days and not leave any money for supplies and she was buying limited amounts. I understand about ordering supplies, but we were a busy school with a very active clinic floor.
I tried to talk to her, but she would just walk away.

She said she wanted to sell the school, because of problems in her life. And said I would be the first one she would offer to sell the school to. Well, she reniged on 3 occassions and I was feed up with all of her antics. I told her either she wanted to sell or she didn't, and she started to go into her poor me routine.
I got feed up and quit. I felt like she did me so wrong. I felt so close to the students and that school was a part of me.

Maybe I was to hasty in quitting, but she'd done me wrong one to many times and I felt I had been used for 5 years.
She has since sold the school and moved out of state.

I hope she never does this to anyone again.

Where has faithfullness to one's job, and employees gone too?

You should have sued her for the money she didn’t pay you while working the 12 hour days.

FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT SHE DIDN’T WANT YOU WITH THE SCHOOL ON SOME GROUNDS MAY OF BEEN JEALOUS OF YOU, YOU DID THE RIGHT THING FOR QUITTING AND MOVING ON WITH LIFE.

Quit complaining. You just learned the value of a contract. You have no money invested just some time. Big deal. Move on.

You put yourself out there. Remember this: GET IT IN WRITING. Stuff happens. You set yourself up for it.
