When I Broke My Ankle...

I slipped and fell going into work. Broke two bones in my ankle. Dr. said stay off work at least a week. Boss started calling me after a few days wondering when I would come to work. I was in a lot of pain and it was a retail job meaning I would have to be on my feet all day. My first day back my boss took the afternoon off leaving me alone waiting on people and hopping on my crutches until I couldn't do it anymore. When I complained to him I was in pain the next day he told me there would be more pain and he would work me even harder when the cast was off. He also told me to stop parking in the handicap space in front of the store and that I should park out in back where I fell on the ice. He also would not allow me to use a wheel chair. I also had to stand in the lab on my crutches and make eyeglasses as he would not help me at all. Total asshole.

If you fell on the ice at work, that sounds like a case for workman’s comp. Find yourself the nastiest lawyer and go after that SOB. You should be documenting all of his comments in a journal with date and time and names of any witnesses. Also any customers that witnessed you hobbling around the store. And for goodness sakes, you can only be treated like a doormat if you allow people to walk all over you.

I totally agree with the last comment. And if you can’t document it all, get one of those voice activated pocket recorders. record him making the remarks, but don’t let anyone know ya have it, unless it’s that lawyer that’s going to fry that bastard.

Regarding recording conversations … make sure your state doesn’t require you to get both parties’ permission. Some states only require one party’s permission to record a conversation (and you doing it would be implicitly giving yours), but some states require the other party to give permission. Be careful when recording conversations :)
